What does the free offering include?Eligible high school juniors and seniors will have full access to 3 courses—for 90 days upon signup. We've opted to offer these courses free, as they're among our most popular, widely transferable, and well-suited for high schoolers seeking college credit. You can take more courses if you refer a friend after registering.

Why are we offering free college courses to high schoolers?We believe everyone deserves access to college-level courses—without cost as a barrier. To advance our mission, we’re offering select courses for free to up to 10,000 high-schoolers across the U.S. this summer. This program is perfect for high schoolers seeking to explore college-level courses, get ahead on their college education, or simply dive into summer learning!

What if I finish my free courses during the free period or want to keep using UPI Study after the free period?To continue taking UPI Study courses not offered in this program or after the free period, you can subscribe to become a paid member or refer a friend and each new friend who joins - you get one more course for free.

Why should I take classes from UPI Study instead of my local university or community college?UPI's college-level courses offer flexibility to the max. You can learn at your own pace. All course materials are included, so forget about spending money on textbooks! You can take our courses anytime, anywhere, and on most any device.

As a parent/guardian, will I have access to information about my high schooler's coursework?When signing up, the high schooler may authorize a third party (e.g., parent/guardian, teacher, counselor) to access information about their coursework, such as progress and scores.

How do I transfer UPI courses for college credit?UPI's courses are designed to transfer for college credit to our 2000+ NCCRS (A NYSED BODY) & ACE partner colleges and have been reviewed for credit at over 1,500 other colleges and universities. When you successfully complete a course, we’ll send you an email with instructions on ordering your official transcript. If you decide to enroll at a university, you can provide this transcript to be considered for credit. If you need help, our Learning Coaches are here to support you throughout the process!

How does UPI Study compare to AP courses and dual enrollment?UPI Study is similar to AP courses and dual enrollment because, like them, UPI Study is a tool you can use during high school to help you earn college credit! What sets UPI Study apart is its flexibility. Unlike AP or dual enrollment, your success isn't tied to a single score or grade. With our self-paced pass/fail courses, UPI Study lets you demonstrate your learning as you go—anytime, anywhere, without the rigid structure or timelines of AP exams and dual-enrollment programs.

How do I sign up?To sign up, you (the high schooler) will: Create an account by clicking any "Sign Up Free Today!" button on this page. (Important: Signing up from other UPI Study pages will not grant access to this free program). Complete your profile. Voila! You can try out any of our 3 free Sophia courses now. Pro tip: To access these courses for longer time, sign up from your school email.

Does it matter which high school I attend or if I'm homeschooled?Nope! As long as you're a rising junior or senior in the 2025-2026 school year, or a graduating senior you can join.

Do I need a school email to register?No. In fact, we recommend that the high schooler use any personal, non-school or school email address to sign up. This way, you can easily access transcripts and other emails from UPI Study after you graduate high school.

Who should go through the signup process for this program: the high schooler or their parent/guardian?We recommend that the high schooler sign up, though their parent/guardian may sign up on their behalf—just be sure to enter the high schooler's information (not yours!). The name on your UPI Study account will be the name on your transcript.

When can I sign up for the program? How long will I have free access to UPI Study?Eligible high schoolers must sign up in summer. They'll have access to select courses for 90 days from signup.

What accommodations are available for high schoolers with disabilities? Is documentation required?We offers accommodations, such as extended time for assessments, to support high schoolers with disabilities. Students or their parents/guardians should contact our Learning Coaches to discuss their needs and provide any required documentation.

What support resources does UPI Study offer?UPI Study provides technical support through our Learning Coaches. We also include course materials in the form of a digital tutorial (that's right, no purchasing textbooks!). Our courses offer plenty of practice questions. Some courses even offer tutoring.
