How to use what you find

1. Find your exams

Each row is one CLEP exam the college lists: the minimum score it asks for and the credits it gives. “Not listed” means College Board's list has no figure for it.

2. Check with your registrar

Tick the exams you want. The email under the list asks the college to confirm the score, the credits and the course each exam counts as. Copy it and send it.

3. Prepare

One exam? Its $5 study guide. Two or more? A CLEP plan covers every CLEP study guide and prep course, from $29 a month.

Questions about the lookup

Where do these scores and credits come from?

From College Board's CLEP College Credit Policy Search, which shows, for each college that posts a CLEP policy, the exams it gives credit for, the score it requires and the credit hours it awards College Board. Each result links that college's own page there.

Are these policies up to date?

College Board says colleges may not have their latest policy posted on its site, and to check the college's own website College Board. Policies change, so confirm with your registrar before you book an exam: the email on this page asks the right questions.

Why does an exam say “Not listed”?

College Board's list has that exam for the college but no minimum score or no credits for it. We don't fill the gap with a guess: ask the college.

Does a higher score than 50 ever matter?

Yes. Each college has its own policy that says exactly what credit it gives College Board. In our list, 1,630 of the 2,239 colleges ask for more than 50 on at least one exam. The lookup shows each college's own minimum for each exam.

What if my college has closed or merged?

We mark the colleges we found closed or merged, with our source, and keep their exam list as a record. We don't offer prep for them. Use Find My College to look up another college.
