What your score means for credit

AP® scores run from 1 to 5. Each college decides which AP® Physics 2: Algebra-Based score it accepts and what it gives for it: credit, a higher placement or both, and how much. Look up your college to see what an estimated 3 would mean there.

The AP® score each college asks for and the credit it gives, at 1,303 colleges. Or browse them all.

How the estimate works

One rule for every exam, so you always know where a number comes from.

  1. Each part counts its official share. On this exam: Multiple choice 50%; Free response 50%.
  2. Your points in a part, divided by the most you can get there, times that share. Add the parts up and round: that's your composite, out of 100.
  3. The composite gives the estimate with the same cut points for every exam:
Composite score and the estimated AP® score it gives
Estimated scoreComposite
570–100
455–69
340–54
225–39
10–24

This is an estimate, not your score. The real line between scores is set for each exam each year, after the exam, so no calculator can know it in advance. Use this to see where you stand and what to work on. It can't promise a score or college credit.

We source each exam's parts, their shares and the most points per question from the official AP® exam pages and course and exam descriptions, checked 8 November 2026, for the May 2027 exams.

AP® Physics 2: Algebra-Based score questions

How is the AP® Physics 2: Algebra-Based score calculated?

Multiple choice is 50% of your score and free response 50%. This calculator turns your points in each part into its share, adds them into a composite out of 100 and gives an estimated 1–5. See the rule.

What do I need on AP® Physics 2: Algebra-Based to get a 3, 4 or 5?

With our estimate, the same share of every part gives: 3: a composite of 40, for example 17 of 42 multiple-choice questions and 16 of 40 free-response points; 4: a composite of 55, for example 23 of 42 multiple-choice questions and 22 of 40 free-response points; 5: a composite of 70, for example 30 of 42 multiple-choice questions and 28 of 40 free-response points. The real cut points change by year, so aim a little above.

Is this my official AP® Physics 2: Algebra-Based score?

No. TransferCredit.org made this calculator. Your real score comes from the exam's own scoring, and the line between scores is set for each exam each year. Treat this as an estimate.

Will my AP® Physics 2: Algebra-Based score count for college credit?

That depends on the college. Each one decides which AP® score it accepts and what it gives for it. Look up your college or browse the AP® credit policies.
