CLEP Credits at Holy Names College

Holy Names College is a private Catholic institution in Oakland, California. It is commonly associated with the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary and has long served the Bay Area through undergraduate and graduate education. The college is now known as Holy Names University, but the historic Holy Names College name is still used in some references.

The institution has offered liberal arts and professional programs across a range of fields, including education, business, counseling, and the arts. Its academic identity has emphasized small classes, close faculty interaction, and service-oriented learning. Because program offerings have changed over time, prospective students should verify current majors and degrees directly with the school.

For CLEP and transfer-credit purposes, Holy Names has historically been a transfer-oriented institution that evaluates prior college-level learning through its admissions and registrar processes. Credit-by-exam acceptance is not something that can be assumed automatically; it depends on institutional policy, the specific exam, and how the credit fits the student's program. Students should confirm whether CLEP or other exam credit is accepted before testing.

Students may also have options involving CLEP®, DSST, AP, ACE, or NCCRS credits, depending on Holy Names College's current policies. Not every alternative credit source is automatically accepted, so verify eligibility before completing a course or exam.

Approved credits may count toward general education, major requirements, electives, or other degree requirements depending on the evaluation. Holy Names College transfer credits should therefore be reviewed against the specific degree program.
