FAQ

Everything about CLEP® prep, the credit guarantee, and how TransferCredit works.

Still have questions?
Email us at [email protected]

What is CLEP® and how does it work?
CLEP® (College-Level Examination Program) is a College Board program letting you earn college credit by passing an exam instead of taking a class. A score of 50+ is accepted by 2,900+ colleges. TransferCredit gives you the structured prep content to walk in ready.
What is the backup credit path if I don't pass CLEP®?
Every subscription includes access to ACE & NCCRS-recommended self-paced courses covering the same subject. These are fully online, no strict proctoring, no exam required. Complete the course, earn the credit — accepted at 2,100+ colleges. It's a separate, legitimate credit pathway, not a consolation prize.
Are ACE and NCCRS credits the same as CLEP® credits?
They're different pathways to the same goal — transferable college credit. CLEP® credits come from passing an exam. ACE & NCCRS credits come from completing evaluated courses. Both are accepted by thousands of colleges, and both produce official transcripts. Which one your college accepts depends on their specific policy — check our college search tool.
How many CLEP® subjects can I study with one subscription?
All of them. One subscription gives you unlimited access to all 28 CLEP® prep courses on the platform — prep for multiple subjects at the same time, retake any quiz, and move at your own pace.
How long does it take to prep for a CLEP® exam?
Most students are exam-ready in 2–6 weeks per subject studying a few hours per week. Our readiness quiz system tells you when you're actually ready — so you don't walk in underprepared or over-study unnecessarily.
Can military students use TransferCredit?
Yes — CLEP® exams are free for active-duty military through the DANTES program. TransferCredit gives you the prep content; DANTES covers the exam fee. ACE/NCCRS credits from the backup path also stack with military training credits on an Excelsior OneTranscript.
What's the difference between the Semester and Lifetime plans?
The Semester plan gives you 3 months of CLEP® prep plus 3-month access to the ACE/NCCRS backup credit courses — billed every 3 months at $69. The Lifetime plan is a single $149 payment giving you permanent CLEP® prep access plus a full 12-month ACE/NCCRS access covering 70+ courses — one payment, no renewals ever.
