CLEP Credits at Capella University

Capella University is a private, online university based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was founded in 1993 and serves adult learners through distance education. The university is headquartered in Minneapolis, but its academic model is primarily online rather than campus-based.

Capella offers a wide range of degree and certificate programs through its schools and colleges, with a strong emphasis on graduate and professional study. Its offerings are especially known in fields such as business, education, counseling, psychology, nursing, public service, and information technology. The university is designed around flexible online learning for working adults and other nontraditional students.

For CLEP and transfer credit purposes, Capella is generally a transfer-oriented institution, but credit acceptance is determined by university policy and program requirements. Students should expect that prior college coursework, exams, and other prior learning may be reviewed for possible transfer credit, but acceptance is not automatic. CLEP credit policies can vary by program and degree level, so applicants should confirm current rules directly with Capella before relying on exam credit.

Students may also have options involving CLEP®, DSST, AP, ACE, or NCCRS credits, depending on Capella University's current policies. Not every alternative credit source is automatically accepted, so verify eligibility before completing a course or exam.

Approved credits may count toward general education, major requirements, electives, or other degree requirements depending on the evaluation. Capella University transfer credits should therefore be reviewed against the specific degree program.
