About the university

About University of Wisconsin - Marathon County

University of Wisconsin - Marathon County was a public branch campus of the University of Wisconsin System in Wausau, Wisconsin. It served students in central Wisconsin and was part of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point system. The campus later became the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Wausau.

As a branch campus, UW-Marathon County offered lower-division college coursework and transfer-oriented academic pathways rather than a large catalog of standalone majors. Students could complete general education requirements and begin degree programs before transferring to a four-year institution. The campus also supported access to associate-level study and workforce-oriented coursework.

  • Public UW campus serving students in Wausau and the surrounding region
  • Transfer-oriented academics with pathways into four-year degree completion
  • General education focus that supports students beginning college locally
  • Regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission
  • Part of the University of Wisconsin System with standard registrar and transfer procedures
Transfer credit policy

How Transfer Credits Work at University of Wisconsin - Marathon County

For CLEP and transfer-credit purposes, this campus should be understood as a public UW System institution that followed University of Wisconsin academic policies. Credit-by-exam and transfer decisions were handled through institutional and system procedures, so acceptance depended on the specific exam, score, and receiving program. Students typically needed to confirm how credits would apply toward their intended degree.

Students may also have options involving CLEP®, DSST, AP, ACE, or NCCRS credits, depending on UWMC's current policies. Not every alternative credit source is automatically accepted, so verify eligibility before completing a course or exam.

Approved credits may count toward general education, major requirements, electives, or other degree requirements depending on the evaluation. University of Wisconsin - Marathon County transfer credits should therefore be reviewed against the specific degree program.

Transfer tip: Check your transfer credit evaluation and compare accepted credits with your University of Wisconsin - Marathon County degree requirements before planning additional coursework.
