About Saint Joseph College - West Hartford
Saint Joseph College was a private Catholic college in West Hartford, Connecticut. It was founded in 1932 by the Sisters of Mercy and served undergraduate women for much of its history before later becoming coeducational. The institution is now known as the University of Saint Joseph, but the Saint Joseph College name is still used in some historical references.
The college offered liberal arts and professional programs, with strengths that included education, nursing, health-related fields, and the arts and sciences. As a Catholic institution, it emphasized service, ethical leadership, and a broad undergraduate education. Because the school later became a university, its academic offerings expanded beyond the traditional college model.
